Hello dance enthusiasts of Montréal!
This week on the show Allison and Kati get carried away gushing about Crystal Pite, her company Kidd Pivot and her show that is currently running at Agora, The You Show. Seriously, just go see it.
Then we dedicate some time to current events in the dance world. Kati talks about some recent developments in the provincial budget as it relates to the dance industry. Then she tells us about some interesting stats concerning the cultural engagement of the public in different provinces. Bringing her attention still wider, she talks about the reception and reaction of Québec contemporary choreography in France. You can find links to the various articles she references bellow:

Finally, Kati tells us about her incredible experience witnessing Hora choreographed by Ohad Naharin. This Danse Danse production was presented at Théâtre Maisonneuve, and performed by the Batsheva Dance Company earlier this month.

Edgy and Artistic Women
Dearest Montréal,
Today marks the opening of the 19th annual Edgy Women festival. In honor of this event we talk with three of the talented ladies involved in the festival during this episode. The director of the festival, and of Studio 303, Miriam Ginestier, lets us in on the history of Edgy Women, it’s goals and what to look out for this year. The festival runs from March 15th-April 1st in various locations around the plateau.
One of the headlining productions, In Succube, was created and is performed by Andréane Leclerc and Holly Gauthier-Frankel, both of whom joined us this week. Holly (a.k.a Miss Sugarpuss) is an actor, signer and burlesque performer. Andréane is a circus and cabaret performer and contortionist. There is no doubt that the collaboration between the two of them will be edgy and deal with femininity.
After the break, Allison reviews Deborah Dunn’s Orlando. The show is currently running at Agora (until Saturday, March 17th) so if you like what you hear you can still catch the show.
Then Jenn reviews Love Death Devil – The Piece by Ben J. Riepe Kopaine, presented at La Chapelle. Unfortunately the run of that show is already over, but if you are intrigued you can listen to last week’s episode (March 8th) to hear our interview with Ben.

Love, Death, Devil & Grandeur Nature
Hello dance lovers,
This week we split our show in two. In the first half hour Jenn interviews Ben J. Riepe Kopaine, the choreographer of Love Death Devil – The Piece, presented at La Chapelle. Benefiting from having seeing the show beforehand, Jenn gets right into the work with Ben.
For the second half hour we switch to French and Kati and Karen interview Séverine Lombardo, the choreographer of Petites Pieces de Poches: Grandeur Nature. This work was presented by Danse-cité at Usine C. Also recent witnesses of the work, the ladies talk logistics as well as process.
We top off the show today with a super-fast “micro-review” of last week’s Tangente presentation of Spin & Century of Small. To learn more about that show, reference last week’s episode of Movement Museum when we interview the artists involved.

We continue our Tangente marathon in this episode of Movement Museum as we interview two artists involved in this week's Tangente production, which is again a double bill. Rebecca Halls is the choreographer and performer of Spin, and Raqib Brian Burke is a performer in Mira Hunter’s work Century of Small. We discuss the difference and similarities of hula hooping and whirling dervish. It is a dizzying conversation!

This week's episode of Movement Museum was pretty amazing if I may say so myself. Kati interviews Nora Chipaumire and Souleymane Badolo who are presenting three short works Love, Voodoo and Yaado at Monument National as a part of both the Tangente season, and as a part of Ascen/Danses (an event which celebrates contemporary dance/performance by artists of the African diaspora). Both our guest are well spoken, intelligent and passionate individuals, and expose us to some beautiful truths, and their personal feelings.
Near the end of our program Allison reviews the research project presented by Tangente last week, In Limbo. If you tuned in last Thursday you know that we interview the artistic director of the project, Lynda Gaudreau. The two choreographers presenting In Limbo were Marie Claire Forté and Julie Favreau.
Kati does a quick dance history on Katherine Dunham, and as promised here are some links to more information on her. She is an incredible woman, and the two minutes we could spare on her were just not enough!

This week we shook it up by starting with a couple of dance reviews from works presented last week. First, Allison reviews the double bill presented by Tangente, Dans les Plis by Sarah Dell'ava and Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt by Dorian Nuskind-Oder (who we interviewed last week on the show). Then Kati reviews Husk by George Stamos (who we interviewed two weeks ago) presented by Montréal Danse and Agora.
Then Kati interviews Lynda Gaudreau, the artistic director of the upcoming Tangente presentation of In Limbo, opening tonight. Lynda talks about the importance of research for herself, and the choreographers presenting work for this show. The two presenters Lynda mentored are Marie Claire Forté and Julie Favreau.

Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt
Hello bustling dance community!
There was so much going on last week, we packed our hour full to the brim! We spent the first half hour of our episode this week with the lovely and talented Dorian Nuskind-Oder who presented her piece, Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt last week as a part of the Tangente season. The show was a double bill with Sarah Dell'ava's Dans les plis. Dorian talks about her creation, her interest in film, the transition from New York to Montreal, and much more.

After we said goodbye to Dorian, we chatted with Rhodnie Désir over the phone. Rhodnie premiered her production of Ví [REC] at the MAI on the evening of the 9th. She has choreographed the work, and is also signing and dancing in the production.
Then Allison reviewed Les Angèles ces dernier blues by the new collective C'est Juste Lundi. The show played at La Chapelle in January.

Soak, Bijoux, Ludmilla, Bouge D'ici and more!
Hello Friends!
In the fist half hour of the radio show this week Allison interviews Caroline Laurin-Beaucage, a choreographer who collaborated with Martin Messier on the show Soak, which was presented by Tangente this January.
Kati reviews a production from the company Mandala Sitù Danse, called Bijoux which presented at L'Agora de la Danse this January as well.
Allison talks about the life and achievements of Ludmilla Chiriaeff in dance history this week. If the name sounds familiar it is probably because Chiriaeff is the founder of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
All three ladies discuss the Bouge D'ici Festival closing night show, and the festival in general. This turns into an interesting conversation about the accessibility of dance.

Montréal Danse's 25th anniversary
Hello!
This week, and last Montréal Danse celebrated it's 25th anniversary with two performances at L'Agora de la Danse. The first was a double bill of Jean-Sébastien Lourdais' work Trois Peaux + Vers and the second was Husk by George Stamos.
Last Thursday on Movement Museum we celebrated as well with an hour long interview with Montréal Danse Artistic Director Kathy Casey, and Choreographer George Stamos. Enjoy!

This week we are fortunate enough to have two interviews in a single hour! For the first half of the show Kati talks to Tedi Tafel about her sight-specific work, and her production of Janvier which is currently showing at Rose de Lima with the help of Studio 303 (tell me more). Bouge D'ici 2012
Hello Montreal!
This week we focus on the Bouge D'ici Dance Festival, running from January 13th-21st, 2012 at MainLine Theater. The non-profit organization is concerned with giving emerging dance artists a venue to produce their work in a professional setting, and facilitating the creation of a diverse dance community in Montreal. During the festival, there are workshops, dance shows, a film night and a story telling event.
Kati and Allison talk with Amy Blackmore, the Artistic Director, Paul Aflalo, the Communications Director, and a member of the planning comity, Stephanie Robert who is telling a story at Confabulation: Just dance, and presenting a video in the Film Night, and Michele Slattery one of the choreographers for the Common Space Showcase. Kati brings us a dance history focusing a different dance festival, the Festival International de Nouvelle Danse, which is unfortunately no longer in existence. If you are curious about what happened to it, Kati will satisfy that curiosity in the show this week.

In Layers
Welcome back!
Here is the first episode of Movement Museum for the year 2012! This week Allison and Karen talk to Jenn Doan and Taryn Javier who are in Calgary working on In Layers, a dance project described as raw, live and interactive. Jenn is head of production, and one of the dancers involved in the work, and Taryn, while also producing, is the choreographer and artistic director of the project.
Although the rehearsals and performances are occurring in Calgary, the creation process will be displayed online for curious dance enthusiasts, and the layman alike. They will be posting videos throughout the process, and interacting with fans, peers and each other through the blog. Stay tuned to inlayers.ca to be a part of it all!
For dance history, Allison puts the spotlight on Ted Shawn, an important figure in the history of Modern Dance.

Best of Movement Museum 2011
Hello friends,
This is the last episode of Movement Museum for the year 2011. Here we wrap up the year with a couple of excepts from our favourite episodes of 2011. The first is from the February 10th interview with the incredible Marie Chouinard. You’ll hear Zeke, Bettina and Jenn talk with her about her creation process, her solo career and her company. The second is our Danse à 10 interview from September 22nd, where Melina, Jenn and Kati discuss La 2em Port à Gauche's sold out production with three of the ladies involved.
Then Allison does a quick recap of the 2011 dance community highlights according to the Voir, Mirror and the Gazette. In the Voir article, L'avenir dans la mire, writer Fabienne Cabado sums up the year of dance in french, and includes a top five list. For the Mirror, Marites Carino writes Till the world ends, and tips his hat to some of 2011's pleasant surprises. Victor Swoboda contributes a thorough article to the gazette with Dance brings a year of surprise, grace and entertainment.

This is an old episode from the vault, and actually one of our favorites. Guest co-host Melina Stinson is in studio with regular hosts Jenn and Kati. They interview three lovely ladies from La 2em Port à Gauche's sold out production of Danse à 10. You'll hear the voices of Miriah Brennan, Katya Montaignac and Miss Betty Wilde speaking about their experiences working on a show set in Kingdom, a Gentlemen's Club, and dealing with subjects of nudity and eroticism. They also get into a fascinating discussion about a stripper and a contemporary dancer virtually switching roles while meeting in the middle for this production.

Flashback Episode: Warming up and cooling down
Hello patient followers,
Here is a flashback to an August 2011 episode. The Last Rain
Good day Montreal,
For our December 15th episode we were graced with the presence of two members of the production team of Cirque Eloize's touring show "Rain." Allison and Kati interview Amélie, the tour director and Stephie, the technical director for the show. Cirque Eloize has been around since 1993, and this particular production has been on display since it's creation in 2004, and has come to Montreal for its farewell performance. We talked to the girls about circus life with an 18 member troupe working on a production with an 8 year long run. (Learn more about Cirque Eloize)

So there's this film...
Hello Montreal!
On the radio last week we were fortunate to have two groups of guests. Claudelle Bilodeau and Jason Martin, two third year students from LADMMI came in to talk about their up-coming "cru d'automne" show. They will be dancing for Marc Boivin and Sasha Ivanochko along with their classmates. Claudelle and Jason let us in on the process of working with these two choreographers, and their experience with school.

Amy Blackmore and Vanessa Kneale came on the show to disscuss the dance film "So There's this Girl" which premiered last Monday, December 5th. Produced by Bis Films, the project was two years in the making. Amy shares her experience turning her stage choreography into a film, and as one of the stars Vanessa tells us about the shooting process.
Then we mixed it up and had the studio of dancers talk about the craft of creation, interpretation and the use of a rehearsal director.
Kati brought us an interesting and relevant dance history relating to Frederick Wiseman's "Crazy Horse" documentary.

Involving Involved
Hello dance lovers,
We had a full studio for the December 1st show with Sasha Kleinplatz, Adriana Disman, Simon Portigal and Chad Dembski, all of whom were involved in the lastest studio 303 production "Involved." Sasha and Andrew Tay are the team behind Montreal's Wants & Needs danse, and curated this evening dedicated to pieces which involve audience participation. Adriana, Simon and Chad all contributed to the evening's lineup. Chad also happens to be presenting his work "Utopia: Is it possible?" next week at 303, so Karen takes the time to discuss his upcoming work with him as well.
Plus, we had time to squeese in two show reviews. Allison reviews Junkyard/Paradis by the same Mélanie Demers we interviewed on the November 17th show. Then, Karen mentions the Pina Bausch show she travelled all the way to Ottawa to see (Bausch's 1995 work "Danzon" at the NAC).

of good moral character
Hello Montreal and beyond!
We had a fantastic show on the radio today. This episode was heartfelt and rich with artistic discussion. This week Jenn Doan interviewed up-and-coming dancer/choreographer, Lara Kramer about her new work "of good moral character" which premieres tonight, November 3rd at the MAI. They also discuss Lara's past work, "Fragments," her artistic background and her Ojibwa and Cree heritage. You can find more information about Lara and her work at www.larakramer.ca.
